For the third consecutive year in a row, Mississippi has claimed the title of fattest state while Colorado repeats as the leanest. Delaware rose the most places in the rankings over last year, while California dropped the most, according to a new analysis by CalorieLab, Inc.
I was watching a T.V. show focusing on the difference of treatment between overweight and non-overweight individuals. I was shocked by the studies that showed that those people who were overweight were less likely to receive preferential treatment than skinny folks. This left me thinking. People really have no love for big people! One lady said, they did it to themselves. Another lady said they need to stop eating. Even men are falling victim to this no fat society.
Who are we to judge? Stop and ask yourself. How do you treat people who are overweight? Are you less likely to hold a door open or say hello? Is this a self esteem issue or society issue? When you get up and run everyday are you running because you enjoy it or are you running to uphold a certain image?
No matter where you look everyone is on this skinny obsession. Even people in positions of power always tend to be on a weight loss plan. Since when did weight become a fad? Why can’t we all just be healthy?
I look at myself and wonder how I can drop the pounds. Then I think, am I losing this weight for myself or am I losing it for my image? I rather be happy and healthy then constantly stress about how the next person perceives me. Besides, I’m sure they probably have a hell of lot more weight holding them down in their own trifling lives than the weight I’m carrying. The moral: be happy with yourself, get and stay healthy, and if you do have a problem with our big boned brothas and sistas look within and ask yourself what’s really bothering you.
