Monday night, Radio One’s HOT 107.9 presented it’s 2008 Dirty Awards in Atlanta, Ga. The event was very nicely put together and despite a few mishaps, I enjoyed myself. “Hot” showed me so much love and invited me out, all the while giving me the scoop and exclusive on things.
This year’s show was craaazzzyy! Of course, I have the good and the bad for you. Good: All of the city’s major industry rappers were in attendance and really showed love: Ludacris, Rick Ross, Trina, Gorilla Zoe, Common, T.I., Keri Hilson, Princess and Diamond, Monica, and many, many more. The show honored artists for their services in the community, like T.I’s ’It’s Cool to be Smart’” program which helps uplift children in the community. This might be the only event put on by a radio station that honors top rap artists in the music game.
Unforteuntely, I have to report the bad: Folks got hurt! There were two SEPARATE altercations during the course of the show, (one case in which yours truly was pepper sprayed).
I have to say, sometimes these artists get so excited about all the extra stuff that comes along with the fame and they forget about the love of the music.
One thing was clear, these people have STRONG allegiances to their respective crews – Like warriors going to battle; And that’s just what happened at The Georgia International Congress Center.
Although I was peppered sprayed and can barely see through the tearing right now as I type, I had a great time! I wanna thank Hot for showing me love. P.S. Someone told me that milk is good for the eyes after being sprayed. Anybody know if that’s true?
On another note, as I was leaving, I heard one girl say “This is some ni**a s#!t.” And I thought, Nah this is some people sh!t. I don’t think that these events can be defined by race because it could have happened to any group of people. And I hate to the see hard work, time effort and energy of others go to waste and it is unfortunate that the negative event overshadowed the numerous positive ones.

Mr. O, thank you. Thank you. I appreciate equal and non dramatic renditions of what took place especialy when you where there. We as black people are sooo hard on each other (mostly because WE believe we’re inferior so anything anyone black does to, in our minds, confirm that, we get all upset). You are right this could, and DOES, happen at none BIG TIME events. Let’s face it, if it’s not a major awards program or event, then folks, black, white, latin & asian can and sometimes do get rowdy.
Sorry to hear about you getting sprayed. Here’s what they say on Wikipedea about relief, hope it helps:O)
Though there is no way of completely neutralizing pepper spray, its effect can be minimized or stopped. Capsaicin is not soluble in water, and even large volumes of water will not wash it off. Victims should be encouraged to blink vigorously in order to encourage tears, which will help flush the irritant from the eyes. The spray can be washed off the face using soap, shampoo, dish washing detergent, or other detergents. Any cooling like ice, cold water, cold surface, or a fan will provide some relief. Milk has been shown to provide some relief and is frequently recommended for treatment of natural capsaicin exposure (chile peppers, hot sauces, spices). To avoid rubbing the spray into the skin, thereby prolonging the burning sensation, and in order to not spread the compound to other parts of the body, victims should try to avoid touching affected areas. Application of oils, or oil containing creams can trap the capsaicin to the skin and result in more severe chemical burns and blistering.
North American street medics use a non-toxic eyedrop solution of 1:1 water and aluminum hydroxide (Maalox) which helps neutralize pepper spray and relieve symptoms.[citation needed]
Florida Police departments have found that Clearasil acne wash helps remove the spray that has made contact with the skin. It’s also been found that Clear Eyes helps remove the effects of the spray from the eyes. Both of these agents should be mixed in with a flushing of water, as one would with any other chemical exposure.[citation needed]
Some “triple-action” pepper sprays also contain “tear gas” (CS gas), which can be neutralized with sodium metabisulfite (Campden tablets, used in homebrewing), though it, too, is not water soluble and could be washed off using the same procedure as for pepper spray. Some sprays also contain a UV “blanketing” dye that is used for identification of sprayed individuals (little can be done against this, but its effects are not nearly as dramatic).

[...] I know a few people on a personal level who were involved in the production of the awards and they are walking around with extreme cases of sad Lil’ Mama faces. Between that public display of trif behavior and the Real Housewives reunion show tonight ATLiens better ask T-Baby to create another version of her heartwarming single just for their city. View more flicks from the show at Freddyo.com! [...]
