Hip-hop star Lil Wayne is pulling out all the stops to beat the gun charges he’s up against in New York City. “The New York Post” is reporting that the rapper has hired a former FBI geneticist to challenge the DNA results that link Wayne to the 40-Caliber handgun found on his tour bus in 2007. Bruce Budowle will argue that Manhattan prosecutors used an unreliable testing method to link “Weezy’s” DNA to the gun. Lil Wayne’s lawyers have already dismissed the allegation by the arresting officer that she smelled marijuana coming from the bus, which led to the discovery of the weapon. Wayne’s legal team has also maintained that the gun was legal and registered to the rapper’s manager, Cortez Bryant.
Lil Wayne has pled not guilty to two felony charges of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. If convicted, he faces up to three-and-a-half years behind bars. Lil Wayne’s case isn’t the first time that Bruce Budowle has been involved in high-profile court proceedings. He previously testified on behalf of prosecutors in the murder trial of convicted wife killer Scott Peterson.
