The Parent Television Council is turning a critical eye to Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards for the sexy female performances.
The watchdog group’s president released a statement about the often unpredictable award show, giving credit to the network for having “toned down” the broadcast, at least compared to what it called “last year’s cringe-inducing mess.”
The PTC is, however, taking notice of the performances delivered by female artists Sunday night. The group says it is “perplexing” that some of the acts would include “strong positive written messages” for young women, matched with performances that feature “stripper poles” and flesh-toned bikinis.” Their statement doesn’t point to any artist in particular, but seemed to refer to the performances from Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj.
