The family of Aaliyah took to the late singer’s official Twitter account, Aaliyah’s camp asked fans to be respectful to actress and singer Zendaya Coleman, who will play Aaliyah in “Aaliyah: Princess of R&B.” They add that she “may not fully have or know the details about this role” or the family’s lack of involvement in the film. The family also retweeted a message from a fan who voiced her anger about the family not being involved in the film’s making. Aaliyah passed away in 2001 in a plane crash in The Bahamas. She was 22-years-old.
Some fans have decided to take action against the film. A petition started on iPetitions.com is calling for filmmakers to halt production for not including the family in the film’s making. Since plans for the film were announced no Monday, the petition has garnered more than one-thousand signatures.
