Rumors about a long-talked-about Jimi Hendrix biopic are getting a boost from an unlikely source. “Captain America” star Hayley Atwell revealed in an interview with “Esquire” magazine that her next role could “possibly” be a film about the iconic guitarist starring Andre 3000. The OutKast rapper, whose real name is Andre Benjamin, has been campaigning for the Hendrix project since 2004. Seven years ago, he told the New York newspaper he was excited to play both Jimi’s “wild” onstage persona as well as his more calm, offstage demeanor. However, the film apparently remains in limbo.
Several attempts at a Hendrix film have already been made, including unsuccessful efforts by Lenny Kravitz and Laurence Fishburne. So far, securing rights to the guitarist’s story from his stepsister Janie Hendrix has proved too difficult a task for anyone to overcome.
