A third officer has resigned as a result of the ongoing sex scandal between officers from the Oakland Police Department and a prostitute, who goes by the name Celeste Guap. The scandal involves at least a dozen police officers in five different cities.
To make matters even worse, three of the officers had sex with Guap before she turned 18 last August. The investigation began in 2015 after Officer Brendan O’Brien committed suicide and named the woman and other officers in his suicide note. O’Brien saved Guap from her pimp and was the first officer to have sex with her.
Officers from the Oakland Police Department even went as far to tip off Guap with confidential information including prostitution stings and arrest records.
One text Guap shared with reporters reads: ‘Want some advice? Stay off east 14, from Fruitvale to 42 tonight. There’s a UC (undercover) operation.’
Guap says a retired Oakland police captain in paid $250 to have sex with her in a motel. The captain has managed to remain his anonymity. She also said she had sex with another officer in his vehicle with his K-9 in the backseat.
Oakland’s Chief of Police, Sean Whent resigned just over a week ago, first calling the move a “personal choice.” It was later revealed that he resigned after being pressured by the department’s overseer, Robert Warshaw, for failing to notify his superiors of his officers’ actions.
Yikes! It seems like corruption within the law, that is built to serve and protect us, is becoming more and more common these days. There definitely needs to be some law put into effect that holds officers and other members of government accountable for their actions to the fullest degree. But for now, we’ll see how this story unfolds. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
