Bobby Brown Says Don’t Blame Him for Whitney Houston’s Death‎ On “Today”

Bobby Brown says he’s not the reason why Whitney Houston is no longer with us. The R&B singer talks to Matt Lauer on NBC’s “Today” show this week in his first interview since the passing of his ex-wife in February.

Brown tells Lauer he had dinner with Houston and their daughter Bobbi Kristina, about a week before the singer’s death and remembers Whitney looking “really well.” He says he was hurt when he heard that drug use contributed Whitney’s death, adding that he had no idea she was still struggling. Brown says he, himself, has been “off narcotics” for the last seven years and defends himself against the speculation that he was the one who got Houston hooked on drugs in the first place.

Brown tells Lauer

“I smoked weed, I drank beer, but no, I wasn’t the one that got Whitney on drugs at all… I’m not the reason she’s gone.” Last week, the singer pled no contest to charges related to his DUI arrest in March. He was sentenced to three years of informal probation and will reportedly undergo a 90-day alcohol education course as part of his sentence. Bobby Brown’s interview with Matt Lauer airs this Wednesday on “Today.”

‘I was hurt because me being off of narcotics for the last seven years, I felt that she was… I didn’t know she was struggling with it still,’ says Brown, who looks studious in a pink sweater over a checked shirt.
‘But at the same time, listen, it’s a hard fight. It’s a hard fight to maintain sobriety that way.’

Lauer then presses home the media speculation to the 43-year-old R&B star, saying: ‘If I heard it once, I heard it a hundred times, and I know you heard it too. Fans, people who say they were close to Whitney, say her life went downhill when she met Bobby Brown. How does it make you feel when you hear it?’

Whitney was into that white horse before she met Bobby. Bobby had nothing to do w/ Whitney’s death. Her family need to stop placing blame on others and deal w/ it since it seem Bobbi Christina might have an issue. Who will they blame if then?

We each have to be accountable for our own actions. There are good and bad influences but they’re just that-INFLUENCES ! In NO WAY do I believe that Bobby Brown is accountable for Whitney’s death. It must be the white media going with that allegation to stir the pot. We all have flaws, celebrities ‘s misfortunes are magnified. Its unfortunate that Whitney passed and I will always remember her greatness as I am a FAN of Bobby’s greatness !!

Whitney had been in or around the industry her entire life, decades. To think that she discovered drugs only after she met Bobby is just wishful thinking and silly. Were they detrimental to each other? Yes.
