I know LaLa is extra happy right now The Carmelo Anthony NBA trade rumors continue to develop, as now there are rumors Anthony may be joining Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. This comes after previous discussion that Melo would be suiting up for the Nets or Knicks.

NBA fans might be quick to shrug this off as simply Lakers fans wishing for Carmelo in the yellow and purple, but a source has commented “The Lakers are definitely an option.” According to a report from ESPN, the Lakers and Nuggets have been engaging in trade talks.  The trade would bring Melo to Los Angeles, and would include a trade package from the Lakers built around their young center, Andrew Bynum.

If the Nuggets and Lakers did a “straight-up trade” involving Anthony and Bynum, it would meet financial requirements under collective bargaining.  However, ESPN notes that Denver will likely want to shred as much salary as they can with the deal, so expect more players to be sent out of town if this deal happens.

Most likely, Carmelo Anthony will have a new team within the next several weeks.  He clearly wants out of Denver and to play for a contending team.  While New Jersey isn’t a contender, he could be the cornerstone of the franchise.  With the Knicks, he would join Amare Stoudamire for a potential championship run.  However, most players would want to align themselves with a guy who is a multiple-time NBA champion and deadly scoring threat.  That guy is Kobe Bryant, so it may very well be that Anthony gets his wish and moves to Los Angeles.
