Artist Spotlight- Loaded Lux

You Gon Get This Work!

You can’t mention battle rap and not include Harlem’s own, Loaded Lux.  Lux talked to us about Big L, the state of New York Hip Hop, his mixtape “You Gon Get This Work” and so much more.  Loaded Lux has annihilated competitors on BET’s Freestyle Friday, lyrically sparred on the underground battle rap scene, and worked with some heavy hitters in the game.  Compile all his stats and you’d expect arrogance and  bravado, but conversely he is extremely humble and that’s why we enjoyed our time with him so much.

kristal-lyndriette

Last week, we had the amazing pleasure of chatting with both Kristal Lydriette, formerly of the group Rich Girls that also featured Sevyn Streeter, and the head of her label, Tyrese Gibson.  Prior to talking to the first artist on Tyrese Gibson’s label, Voltron Records; we chatted with Tyrese about his inspiration for her project, the decision to release some of her music, and so much more.  After her former group toured with Beyoncé, they disbanded, leaving Kristal depressed and in need of a new label and fresh start.  Check out what she and Tyrese had to share with us!

Artist Spotlight- Brooklyn Rapper Troy Ave

troy-ave

Troy Ave recently stirred up the controversy pot by agreeing with Trinidad James’ statement that the south runs New York.

If he was talking about “runs” in terms of Atlanta rap getting constant radio play and being heavy in New York clubs, then he’s got a valid point. A real nigga like myself, I’m gonna deal with facts. I’m not upset about that, but all I want to do is restore the feeling in this city. That’s why I named my album New York City. At a time, the Death Row and West Coast could have said they run rap, and they did! Until Biggie came out, and then Bad Boy was like, ‘Ok, we run rap now.’ There was a time when T-Pain was the only thing that you would hear on the radio, and then the whole group of Florida rappers had it on lock. But, Atlanta niggas been had it for a minute in terms of getting played everywhere.

Artist Spotlight- Sebastian Mikael

Today for our Artist Spotlight, I chose someone that I am feeling personally.  This new artist is grinding his way to the top and his new song featuring Wale is burning up the tracks.  I’m not sure if the sample from Al B Sure drew me in, or if it was Wale, or maybe just Sebastian’s charm was the culprit.

Check it out:

Check out a few other new videos:

Sebastian is TRULY talented! The 24-year-old classically trained singer-songwriter-musician; Sebastian Mikael is already starting his career where others can only hope to finish. Born in Sweden to a Swedish father and Ethiopian mother, Sebastian Mikael is sharing his passion with fans and listeners.

“I became interested in knowing exactly what the musicians were doing and how they got their sounds,” says Sebastian Mikael, who started off playing his favorite songs by Marvin Gaye, Guns N’ Roses, Wyclef Jean, Akon and Usher.

“I feel like my music truly has something to say,” he says. “When people hear my music, I want them to relate. The way my music makes me feel inside is usually the same way people feel when they hear it.”

Mariah Carey is calling her new single a very personal song. She says that she wrote it for people that needed to release somethings or just let some things go. It’s a nice record.  Mariah may be taking a while to get this album out.  It’s been almost 4 years since she put out an R&B album.  The one thing we can say is that she’s definitely giving her fans quality over quantity!  Listen to her new single “The Art of Letting Go” after the jump.
