Yesterday LL Cool J, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Busta Rhymes and Mary J. Blige were among the extended family members who helped lay hip-hop manager Chris Lighty to rest (Wednesday) at his funeral in Manhattan. An emotional LL — who had once been a client of Lighty’s — told MTV News after the service that his former manager was a “jewel” and a “treasured person in the community.” The rapper added that Lighty was an “architect of our culture,” but he was also a friend. During the ceremony, Q-Tip, Busta Rhymes and other artists also shared their personal memories of Lighty. The 44-year-old died last Thursday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Robin Roberts Begins Medical Leave A Day Early & Mother Dies

We found out sad news yesterday Lucimarian Roberts, the mother of “Good Morning America” co-host Robin Roberts, died a day after the anchor announced she was taking a medical leave for a bone marrow transplant. This is what Fox News reported:

 

Sources report The 88-year-old Roberts died in Gulfport, Miss., on Thursday night, Jeffrey W. Schneider, senior vice president of ABC News, said Friday.

The announcement of the death also was made on “GMA” on Friday morning.
“Robin arrived home with her sister, Sally-Ann, forging through flooded and blocked roads to be with her beloved mother in time to see her,” GMA Senior Executive Tom Cibrowski said in an email to the entire news division Thursday evening.

The Mississippi area was dealing with flooding from the effects of Hurricane Isaac.

Sean “Diddy” Combs, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Ludacris and many others from the world of hip-hop are mourning the loss of Chris Lighty. The popular manager, who worked with Combs, 50 Cent, Mariah Carey, LL Cool J and more, died Thursday at the age of 44. Combs sent out a tweet saying simply “in shock,” while Diggy Simmons also said he was shocked to lose someone he considered to be not just a manager, but a member of his family. I know that people have been having  mixed feelings about Drake taking on an Aaliyah album but now BET is reporting that Timbaland will reportedly be involved in the upcoming “Posthumous” Aaliyah album. I don’t know how the entire project will go but it seems only right that you involve Timbaland and/or Missy working on this album. This is news that should provide some solace to fans who were upset by the new Aaliyah song released late Sunday by Drake and his producer Noah “40″ Shebib.

Drake is working with Aaliyah’s record label Blackground Records as executive producer of the new album, news that crystallized for the public soon after Sunday’s release of “Enough Said,” on which he is featured with the late Chanteuse.
