It’s safe to say that Chris Rock stole the night with his opening monologue response to the controversy hashtag #Oscarssowhite.
Despite many people saying they were going to boycott the show due to the lack of nominations for black actors/actress from the Academy for the 2nd year in a row, there were a lot of people who stood in anticipation just because they knew Chris Rock response was going to be major. Rock, devoted his entire introduction to the Oscars in what many are calling “award-winning” monologue in response to diversity in Hollywood or the lack there of. He put a lot into perspective by saying “Hollywood is racist and pleading for more opportunity for actors of color.”
Addressing the fact that this has been going on for years, but only recently a bigger conversation because back then there were “real things to protest.” As for his response to those who took a stand in boycotting the Oscars, “Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties,” he said, “I wasn’t invited.” Rock summed it all up by simply saying that “we all want opportunities, black actors want the same opportunities-not just one.” What did you think of Chris Rocks response to the #Oscarssowhite, did he nail it?
