The Whitney Houston bio pic is getting more interesting by the day; Lifetime has announced that the music for the film won’t be “The Voice” but the voice of Deborah Cox.

Find out the details below.

The Angela Bassett directed project will include some of the late singer’s songs, but we won’t be hearing Whitney Houston’s voice or the voice of actress Yaya Dacosta.

Whitney Houston’s music will be sung by R&B star Deborah Cox, best known for her ’90s hit “Nobody’s Supposed To Be Here.”

A Lifetime rep told E! News,

“The music rights and clearances are still being worked out.” It is confirmed, however, that Cox will provide the “vocal tracks” for the upcoming TV film.

Deborah Cox has an amazing voice; back in 2000, Cox and Houston recorded the duet “Same Script Different Cast,” for Whitney: The Greatest Hits. Cox is also known for popular songs such as “We Can’t Be Friends,” “Who Do U Love” and “Where Do We Go From Here.”

Angela Bassett said she wants to tell a love story between a boy and a girl so the biopic’s main focus is the couple’s relationship not on the music or their extended families. Neither Brown nor the Houston family are involved with the project. The Whitney Houston estate is reportedly trying to have the biopic stopped, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.
