Did Usher Steal ‘Burn’ From Another Artist?

Usher has been accused of stealing material for his hit song, “Burn,” by songwriter Ernest Lee Straughter. Last month, a Californing federal judge said there is the possibility Usher and his producers had access to Slaughter’s song, “Reasons,” created back in 1998. Usher’s people are asking the judge to reconsider whether these is the possibility that he could be familiar with Straughter’s work. The defendants,  Usher, Jermaine Dupri, EMI April Music, Sony Music, Arista Records and more, filed the motion on Friday.

In order for the lawsuit to go through, Straughter had to prove that Usher and them had access to his work and that there was a lot of similarity between the two songs. The judge thinks the songs sound similar, but the hard part was whether Usher and his crew had access to the song. One of the possibilities is Warren G, who collaborated with both artists, but had nothing to do with the song. The judge will now decide whether or not to go back over the case or to put it in front of a jury.

Here are the songs, what do you think?
