Sean “Diddy” Combs says substance abuse is the reason why Bad Boy Records rapper G. Dep is heading to prison. G. Dep was recently convicted of second-degree murder in connection to a 1993 murder in Harlem and is now facing years behind bars. In an interview with Funkmaster Flex’s Hot 97 radio show this week, Diddy called the rapper’s conviction “a shame.” In addition to his talent, Diddy said that on a more regular basis, G. Dep was “probably one of the nicest, most quiet, shyest and humble cats” out there, until he fell under the influence of substance abuse.
The hip-hop mogul also weighed in on his relationship with another former Bad Boy Records artist – Mase. He says he’s kept in touch with his one-time sidekick over the years and credits Mase for his own success. Diddy says he wouldn’t be where he is today without him, comparing their relationship to Batman and Robin. MTV says the two recently reconnected in the studio while Diddy recorded for the remix to Wale’s [[Wah-lay]] “Slight Work.”
