EVENT: Reginae Carter Hosts “Live and Die For Hip Hop Gala” Honoring Chris Kelly of Kriss Kross

Atlanta celebrities, socialites and friends will gather for a night of philanthropy as anesthetist and healthcare entrepreneur LaToya “Leigh”Wise presents the “Live and Die for Hip Hop Black Out Gala” to commemorate the life and legacy of late multi-platinum music artist Chris Kelly,half of the rap duo Kriss Kross.

“Live and Die for Hip Hop Black Out Gala” will be hosted by the Princess of Hip Hop Reginae Carter and  socialites The Three Brown Girls, the Live and Die for Hip Hop Black Out Gala will take place on September 6, 2014 at the Woodruff Arts Center at 7 p.m.

The event is being conducted by reality television phenom Dwight Eubanks of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” and produced by Leigh Wise, Donna Kelly-Pratt and Delanie Barber. The event’s host committee includes music industry executive Shanti Das, Eboni Elektra, personal friends of Kelly and reality stars Rasheeda and Kirk Frost of “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta”, Los Angeles-based socialite Kim Porter and reality star and former label mate Tiny Harris (formerly of R&B group Xscape).

Sponsored by The Atlanta Step-Up Society, this event will pay tribute to the life of Chris Kelly with special performances and guest appearances. Special honorees include vice president of Atlantic Records and former A&R for LaFace Records Kawan “KP” Prather and founder of Organized Noize, Rico Wade. Prather and Wade have been Atlanta ATLien pioneers since the 90s and have played intricate roles in the advancement of the city’s booming music culture. 

Substance abuse plagues many in the music industry and in our society.  This gala will enable Leigh and esteemed members of the hip-hop community to gather for this special occasion. Her mission is to raise awareness and embrace the struggle of those like Chris Kelly and others who we’ve lost.

Proceeds from the gala will contribute to music scholarships for students of the Atlanta Institute of Music and Media, Kelly’s alma mater.

As artists and music fans come together and remember where hip-hop has come from, the gala will be the perfect place to honor Chris and those who have helped shape what hip-hop is today,” shares Wise.
