“I don’t want them to see color. I never did,”

Eve shares with Vibe Vixen. Eve candidly discusses her ideas on raising biracial children in a very color conscious society. Eve shares,

“I grew up in the hood and my mother was very good at it not being a black thing, even though I grew up around all black people. I want them to want to know everything about all kinds of races. I’m a black woman and I love being a black woman. And I think my child should know that black part of themselves. But at the same time, their father would be white and I would want them to know that side of themselves. And British! That’s a whole other situation [Laughs].”

I think we need to work on our colors class.  Red plus blue makes purple, yellow plus green makes blue, and, drumroll, white and black equal brown.  I hate to be the one to pull the carpet from under Eve, but any children she has with her beau will be black.

How wonderful it would be for us all to join hands and sing around a bonfire for equality.  But, until we reach that point in society, we are doing ourselves and our children a disservice by leading them to believe this nation doesn’t have color issues.

I find it wonderful that Eve wants to simply raise a baby, but I hope she realizes that she will be raising a bi-racial child into a “black” and “white” world.  For, the child will have two cultures, but only one “color“.

What are your thoughts on Eve’s hopes of raising color blind babies?
