Exclusive Interview: Emily B. From ‘Love & Hip Hop’ Talks New Clothing Line, Her Relationship With Fab and Beef Wit Kimbella

No one can say that Emily Bustamante is a slacker. The beautiful mother, television star, stylist, and budding designer is making major moves in the industry and it is all being documented on the hit reality show, VH1’s “Love and Hip Hop”. We recently chatted with Emily (@EmilyB) about Fabolous and those pesky rumors that the two are back together, her new clothing line, and of course her show “Love and Hip Hop”. Check out the interview after the cut

A lot of people automatically assume that your from New York, but where are you actually from?

I’m from Virgina. I was orginially born in New York but I moved to Norfolk, Virginia when I was a little girl so I am a southern girl.

Clearly you’re a beautiful woman, would you mind telling us your ethnicity?

I’m Dominican and Puerto Rican

Alright now! Ok, so you got your start in the industry working as a stylist but on the show we see you dipping into the design side of fashion. What can we expect from your new line?

Well, the key thing is that it is going to be affordable. I want it to be affordable because I know that a lot of girls that watch my show are always asking what I’m wearing and I just want to make something that is affordable, chic, and trendy. That’s what you can expect..it’s entitled Emily B. and will be available some time in 2012. That’s the love of my life right now.

What are some “must-haves” that women should have in their closets this Winter?

I would say a fur vest. I love the fur vests you can layer it, over your jackets, you could belt it. Layering is a must! Oh and a good, good chunky heel, maybe even a lace up boot, that you could wear every day from day to night.

Cool! So you have been in the trenches, working behind the scenes but how does it feel to be in the forefront now, on national tv every week?

You know, its been a long journey. I have been doing this for 10 years. So it is not something that happened over night. It feels good, it feels good to you know, to be established and know what I am doing. It has been a long road. It didn’t just happen overnight. People are like “oh how did you become a stylist”? I’m always like, I have been doing this since I was a teenager! It’s very hard because a lot of people think that I got my job because of Fab but you know honestly, if I was not good at what I do, I wouldn’t have been Fab’s stylist ya know? So I had to show and prove to him. It opened a lot of  doors for me and I am very blessed because of that. I got the job because I was actually good at it. It was hard work and I’m very proud of where I am now.

Speaking of the show, do you feel that you are accurately portrayed on the show?

Um I think 6 months ago when I started filming that’s where I was at. A lot has changed in the last few months. I have grown and my relationships have changed. I’ve changed a lot from it. You know, there’s a lot more to me than what they show. I think a lot of it is negative and I don’t like it but you know it comes along with the territory of being a on a reality show. I have a story line I guess, so they follow the drama and the emotional part of me. I think that I am accurately portrayed in some areas, not in all of them.

On the show we see you ending a very long relationship with your boyfriend and the father of your son, Fabolous.. What helped you take a stand and end it?

Well of course you see me moving out on my own. I have two children and I moved on my own in New York. You know I moved here to be with Fab so for me to be here and live on my own is just an experience for me. So you get to see that and you know I just focused on me. I realized that I had to put me first and everything else would fall in place. So on this season, I had to go out on my own, I had to be independent. I had to do me. The first step in doing me was moving out on my own which was very, very difficult.

Wow, that would be pretty difficult but kudos to you for being strong and taking care of you

Thank you! A lot of people are wondering if I still live on my own. Yes, absolutely, I still have my own place and I still live on my own. Absolutely.

Ok, because there have been some rumors that you two are back together. Is there any truth to that?

Well, we have been shooting for a very long time, and we are still shooting so I don’t want to give any of that info away (laughs)

Gotcha. Let’s talk about the fight heard around the world in between Chrissy and Kimbella..do you think Chrissy did the right thing?

No. I think she acted off of emotion and she knows that she could have handled it better. I don’t condone violence. I didn’t want her to get punched in her face, I don’t think anyone deserves that.

What are your feelings on Kimbella at this point? (*Kimbella, Juelz Santana’s girlfriend, told Emily that she slept with Fabolous on national television)

I have no hard feelings toward Kimbella at this point. I cannot hold on to any type of resentment toward her because if I did, I couldn’t move on. That was the past and I moved on from it. She came on the show, she told me on national TV, she accomplished her goal and that’s it. (laughs)

That’s very grown woman of you! Now what can we expect to see from you on the remaining episodes?

I continue to grow. Your going to see a little more sassiness from me this season (laughs). I have a mouth.

Outside of fashion and being a TV star, is there anything else you would like to accomplish?

Yes, definitely. I am starting a non-profit foundation for teen mothers. I just want to be a mentor to them as well because I was a teen mother myself, so that’s what I’m going to be dipping into.

Big shout-out to Emily B. for speaking with us! Catch a new episode of “Love & Hip Hop” tonight at 8pm (new time) on VH1

YES THE PRODUCERS WERE WRONG FOR MAKING HER TELL EMILY ABOUT HER RELATIONSHIP WITH FAB AT EM’s PARTY BUT SHE IS MAD FOR MORE THAN THAT. SHE’S MAD AT ALL THE WOMEN THAT SLEPT WITH FAB. I DON’T GET IT. HE WASN’T HER MAN!!! SHE WAS JUST HIS LIVE IN COOCHIE BABY MAMA THAT HE DIDN’T CLAIM!!!! HE WASN’T CLAIMING HER & SHE KNEW IT ACTUALLY WENT ALONG WITH IT SO HOW IS SHE MAD WITH KIMBELLA OR ANY OTHER CHICK??? HER ANGER NEEDS TO GO TOWARDS HERSELF FOR BEING STUPID AND LETTING A MAN DOG HER LIKE THAT. NOT FAB AND SURE AS HELL NOT ANY OF THE CHICKS. SMH!!!! 6. Tara C says:

Very well written article Brittany. Not that I had any negative thoughts about Emily initially, but this interview definitely gave me a different insight of her and I can respect her. She got her own and most importantly she is establishing her own brand, she’s on her way!

  7. eric says:

She needs to be talking about getting a new make up artist or someone to help her with her make up. That is a down right mess. Someone get a drag queen to show her how to put on make up or she needs to go the MAC counter at Macys.

  8. lockstress says:

I like her because SHE HAS A DAMN JOB!

  9. VOICEOFREASONING says:

Great interview! I know her & Fab are back together! Who does she think shes fooling!

  11. 2Sweet says:

I feel that he kept that part of his life a secret for a reason – mainly keeping his personal life just that – personal and private. When the public gets in people’s private lives, it gets ugly. Team #EMandFAB
