It’s been a long journey but the controversial film about the life and times of Nina Simone entiled simply “Nina” staring Zoe Saldana is coming to a theater near you.
Check out the details below.
Many have speculated on the choice of actress and Afro-Latina star Zoe Saldana staring as African American music heroine Nina Simone in the highly anticipated biopic “Nina“. Honestly I never thought the movie was ever going to see the light of day. Let’s be real race and colorism is a touchy topic for African Americans. To see an icon tan washed was a LARGE PILL to swallow. But it looks like they found Zoe a bronzer and a head rag and the film will go on.
RLJ Entertainment released the poster and gave an official synopsis of the film,
She was one of the century’s most extraordinary talents, a 15-time Grammy nominee and Grammy Hall of Fame Recipient; her mesmerizing songs and passionate politics combined to make her the unforgettable Nina Simone (Zoe Saldana). But fame and fortune came with a price, and her later years were riddled with depression, alcohol abuse and isolation. Rediscovering the meaning of her life and work took courage, strength and one true friend: Clifton Henderson (David Oyelowo), the man who started out as her assistant and eventually became her loyal manager. With Clifton’s encouragement, the “high priestess of soul” began a courageous journey back to her music … and, eventually, herself.
The film will be released to theaters as well as to video-on-demand and digital HD on April 22, 2016. Additionally, the film got its first official poster, showing off Saldana’s look as the legendary Simone, and while there has not yet been a trailer release, with the release date so soon, there is bound to be one soon.
