ASPiRE TV is premiering its first sketch comedy series “Comic Edge” tonight, May 26th, at 10p.m. EST. Featuring host, Robert Powell and co-stars Sydney Castillo, Donnivin Jordan, and TreyMoe.
I had the pleasure of interviewing the cast at the ASPiRE TV Network In Atlanta and upon arrival the comedic vibes were at an all time high. The cast of the new sketch comedy show were setting the scene with a improv musical. Cast member Sydney Castillo was leading on the piano, while host and cast mate Robert Powell and Donnivin Jordan followed with some impromptu lyrics, while other cast mate TreyMo danced along to the comedic tunes. I could tell by this cast’s first impression that Comic Edge will be something that you wouldn’t want to miss.
Robert Powell, who started his career in comedy from a dare from friends in college, which is kind of funny within its self, revealed that this actually his first tv show that he has been on. He says he’s always felt that tv would take away from the comedic aspect of his stand up Now he’s hosting his very own show and also one of the shows executive producers along with Daniel Paul (“Laff Mobb’s We Got Next”) and Arthur Spivak (“Mad About You”, Laff Mobb’s We Got Next).
Sydney Castillo, who has been featured on “The Tony Rock Project” is not new to the big screen at all says “working with this group is like working with his best friends“. Castillo’s main goal in the comedy series he says is to “break” host, Robert Powell during the show.
Donnivin Jordan is also no stranger to the big screen, who jokingly admits that his first debut on t.v was on BET’s “Hell Date”, in which he thought his career would take off, but didn’t. During the interview he definitely seemed to be the wild card of the group, I was almost afraid of what he would say next.
Last but definitely not least (“The Youtube sensation”) TreyMoe (‘TreyMoeShow”) making his debut into the comedy world through the popular media outlet, seemed laid back during the interview, but we all know from his youtube channel that he has something up his sleeve. He also gave a special shout out to female comedian Lil Ricky, who will be featured in the show along with many other up and coming comedians.
Later that evening ASPiRE TV executives, industry tastemakers and Atlanta’s elite gathered together for the exclusive buzz party to celebrate the premiere of their new sketch comedy show, “Comic Edge.” Attendees had the opportunity to engage in an intimate Q&A session on the terrace of Topgolf Atlanta Midtown with the cast. As the night continued, guests went on to socialize over complimentary food and drinks while also enjoying several rounds of golf in reserved bays.
The cast discussed what viewers can expect from “Comic Edge” and explained how it will provide non-stop laughter on real-life topics through sketch comedy, stand-up, and improv. The show is set apart by its intention of bringing change through comedy. The sketches of the show bring urban culture to life through a comedic lens and will bring humor to everything from politics to dating and pop culture. “We are excited about this edgy and entertaining new series that will introduce ASPiRE viewers to fresh faces and new voices of up and coming comedians,” said Melissa Ingram, vice president, channel operations and business affairs, ASPiRE. “The vision for the network is to provide a platform for emerging and next generation talent.”
If this cast is bringing the same energy they had off screen to the big screen, I can’t wait to see it tonight at 10p.m. Be sure to find ASPiRE on your tv !
