Future Releases New Self-Titled Album This Friday, Also Dates For “Nobody’s Safe” Tour

Are you prone to anxiety fits the longer it takes for one of your favorite artists to release a new something? Fans of the tremendously popular, Atlanta-based hip-hop artist Future have never really had that problem, and so they shouldn’t take his repeated lyrical references to “poppin’ xans” as a practical prescription.

2016 featured more than a half-dozen singles on which Future’s moniker adorned the credits. In addition to those releases, there was also the mixtape named in homage to a certain effort by the late Prince, Purple Reign, and, on the more “official” front, EVOL (semi-obviously, “love” in reverse), which helped to unofficially usher in last year’s Valentine’s Day with its cover of burnt roses and the rapper’s continuing inclination to express his personal points of view on the romance and relationship ends. EVOL was Future’s fourth studio album, but it turns out he’s already set to release his fifth, just a year later.

The self-titled FUTURE was announced partially via Twitter. And, with a characteristic-yet-still-mildly-startling lack of warning, it was also announced that it’s set for release this Friday, February 17. Also semi-surprising is the fact that, on the iTunes pre-order page, none of the tracks currently have titles beyond “Track 1,” “Track 2,” etc., which may or may not turn out to be the way that the man himself designed it. If those are indeed the finalized track titles, it would seriously dilute the coolness of screaming out song requests at his concerts.
