The GRAMMY Awards are getting a makeover. The Recording Academy has announced plans to trim the number of GRAMMY categories from 109 to 78, merging a number of categories into one. For instance, instead of two categories for male and female vocal performance, nominees will be lumped into one new pop solo performance category. The metal and hard rock categories have also been combined. Gone are categories for instrumental performances in the pop, rock and country fields, and nominees for the Contemporary R&B

Album award will now be included in the existing GRAMMY category for R&B album. Recording Academy president Neil Portnow insists the changes will not spell the end of any of the music fields. He says the categories are still there, just in different genres. >>Report: Mack 10 Hospitalized With Diverticulitis Rapper Mack 10 is reportedly in a Los Angeles hospital battling a serious stomach illness. AllHipHop.com cites sources who say the emcee is suffering from Diverticulitis, a digestive disease found in the large intestine. Insiders say Mack 10 was experiencing “unbearable pain” prior to being hospitalized, adding that it’s going to “take time to heal.” Mack 10’s trip to the hospital comes just days before the release of his next album, “Money Music.” The record is slated to drop next Tuesday.
