Jay-Z To Open Brooklyn Nets Arena With Concert

Jay-Z will be giving his New Jersey Nets a proper homecoming. The rap icon announced at a press conference on Monday that he’ll be opening their new Brooklyn venue next fall by taking the stage. Jay also took a little swipe at his good friend LeBron James when he said he’s not quite sure just how many shows he’ll put on.

Jay-Z also revealed on Monday that the Nets’ new arena will be called the Barclays Center. The facility is still under construction, but is scheduled to open its doors next September. As part of their move, the New Jersey Nets will also be changing their name to the Brooklyn Nets. Jay says one of the things he really wanted when he purchased part of the team was to see them one day represent Brooklyn with their name.

While Jay-Z has been a minority owner of the team for several years now, this latest promotional push marks the first time the Brooklyn-born rapper has taken to the frontlines to use his celebrity for a marketing campaign for the Nets.
