Rapper and actor Common and singer-songwriter John Legend were presented with a Golden Globe Award at Sunday’s night 72nd annual ceremony in recognition of their original song “Glory” written for the Civil Rights historical film “Selma!”

Here are the details…

Singer-songwriter John Legend and rapper/actor Common won a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song at Sunday evening’s ceremony held in Beverly Hills at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The duo seemed surprise when the category’s presenter, legendary singer-songwriter, actor, and musician Prince, announced their song, “Glory,” as the winner. The award was the first for both Legend and Common.

Despite their shock, Common launched into a brief but powerful and inspiring speech following his gracious thanks to all those involved with the film including Oprah Winfrey. Legend, who noted he was “brought on at the last minute” to compose the song, also thanked those persons who are “out there fighting for justice right now” and said he was “grateful to write this song hopefully as an inspiration to them.” Watch their entire speech and share your thoughts on their win below!
