Judge Finalizes Co-Guardianship Status Over Jackson Kids

A Los Angeles judge is giving the okay to Michael Jackson’s mother and nephew to share guardianship of the late pop star’s three children. The judge finalized the agreement at a court hearing on Wednesday. The ruling comes about three weeks after Jackson’s 82-year-old mother, Katherine Jackson, agreed to share the role with her 34-year-old grandson TJ Jackson. The move was made after the judge gave TJ temporary guardianship of the children during Katherine’s extended stay at an Arizona spa resort. The children, 15-year-old Prince, 14-year-old Paris and ten-year-old Blanket, had complained that they were unable to reach their grandmother. Katherine later said she was unaware that her grandchildren were trying to contact her.

In a sworn declaration, Mrs. Jackson stated she was fine with the idea of sharing guardianship duties with TJ, who is the son of Michael’s brother Tito. She said while she was away she had assumed the children were in TJ’s care seeing that he had been acting as an informal guardian on many matters since she was appointed to take care of the children after Michael’s death.
