A “Cruel Summer” is bringing Kanye, Kim and Cannes together in the South of France. Rapper Kanye West and rumored girlfriend Kim Kardashian were on hand for the screening of Kanye’s 30-minute short film at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday. Inspired by Kanye’s upcoming compilation of the same name, MTV says the film — “Cruel Summer” — was projected onto seven screens inside a tented pyramid at the star-studded film showcase. The movie was written, produced and directed by West. It stars his fellow G.O.O.D. Music labelmate Kid Cudi as a car thief who falls for a blind Arabian princess. Kudi and Kanye’s Throne partner-in-rhyme Jay-Z were also present for the screening.
Kanye told reporters that the film is not quite finished. He said they were shooting it in Qatar less than a month ago and that he pushed hard to get it done in time for Cannes. West says he plans to take “Cruel Summer” to New York and back to Qatar to re-edit the “rough draft” after its non-competition run at the film festival. Check out photos below…
