Kanye West spent part of his weekend on stage at the Made in America Festival, but he also spent some time philosophizing on hip-hop lyrics. On Sunday, the emcee posted some 20 messages on Twitter, discussing whether a certain taboo word beginning with the letter “B” was acceptable. Kanye asked whether it was permissible to use the b-word only if it was accompanied by the word “bad,” as it is in Lupe Fiasco’s single “B**** Bad.”
Kanye himself has been known to use the word in what he calls an “endearing” way, most notably on one of his latest singles about girlfriend Kim Kardashian, titled “Perfect B****.” But he admits he often goes back and edits some of the cursing from his lyrics, explaining that he likes to “use profanity as a tool and not a crutch.”
Kanye says he often struggles with the topic, and despite his Twitter-spree, he was unable to reach a conclusion. He said he wasn’t “tweeting to say what we need and what we don’t,” adding, quote, “I just wanted to think out loud with you guys today.”
