The owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, Jerry Buss, died this morning at age 79. He was hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in LA the past few months and has lost the battle to cancer.
In 1979 Buss purchased the Lakers, LA Kings and The Forum for $67.5 million which was the largest purchases in sports history at that time.
Some of the greatest players were under Buss’ ownership which includes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant. The Lakers won 10 NBA Championships under his ownership and he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.
