Lil Wayne’s work while behind the walls of Rikers Island is receiving an upgrade. The emcee tells MTV News that since his release he has spent a lot of time improving the lyrics he penned while serving time. Weezy remarks, quote, “There was just a lot of material that I wrote in there and I came home and transformed it into something better.” He adds, quote,

“I thought I would perform it the way I wrote it, but it wasn’t possible, so I took bits and pieces and rejuvenated it.” Lil Wayne says his career as a rapper is similar to that of an athlete’s, noting that some of his natural ability has declined with age. Wayne point out that he’s been able to maintain a high level of performance, however, by having a better understanding of music. He adds, quote, “nowadays, for me, it’s about what I’m saying.”

Lil Wayne spent eight months in Rikers Island last year on weapons charges. On Thursday, he premiered the video for his latest single, “6 Foot 7 Foot.” The track is the lead single off his upcoming album, “Tha Carter Four,” which I have been told he is almost done with and is expected to drop later this year.
