I love when people tell me things I didn’t know so after reading @MrRashawn706 tweet I had to put up this post so people could remember the legendary singer Marvin Sease.

Sease, a southern soul performer known for his sexually explicit songs on the so-called southern chiltlin’ circuit, died Feb. 8 at age 64 in Vicksburg, reportedly from pneumonia.

His biggest hit was the 1987 song “Candylicker” of which Variety’s obit said, “Without the benefit of airplay, this almost single-entendre celebration of sex became a smash hit, and Sease took its title as his professional nickname.”

The music magazine further said “his funky, unblushing songs cemented his status as an enduring attraction on the black club circuit” — something that can also be said of fellow southern soul performers Denise LaSalle, Bobby Rush and Theodis Ealey.
