National Enquirer Publishes Whitney Houston Coffin and Death Photos

The National Enquirer hired a model to act as Whitney Houston’s dead body in a ghoulish photo shoot for a story about the singer’s “final minutes”. Unsurprisingly, news of the “Whitney Houston death scene” photo shoot has been met with accusations of bad taste. You can see the real photos below

Its crazy how sometimes you can’t trust the people you call your friends. Sources report that someone in Whitney Houston’s camp sold images of the late queen of pop to the National Enquirer. In the latest issue of the enquirer displays a photo of the pop icon lying in an open coffin wearing a purple dress on the cover of the magazine. The image of the late pop diva was purportedly taken during a private viewing at the Whigham Funeral Home in Newark, N.J.
No word on how much the magazine paid the insider for the photo.

The Enquirer also teases some other tawdry details about the Houston viewing. Whitney was dressed in her favorite purple dress, $500,000 worth of jewelry, and had on gold slippers. The tabloid ran similar open casket shots of Elvis Presley after the King of Rock died in 1977. Do you think this is right?

The photo is tasteful and “in death”. I heard that the funeral video was going to be released by the family and I don’t feel that the in death photo is distasteful. Why on earth would the family release the video of the funeral if they were so concerned about privacy. Many of us have seen “in death” casket photos and I do not feel it offensive. It honors her! It is a fact of life in which every person faces. She was an icon and a person of of extreme interest and I cannot believe that the family would be furious about a photo that is in honor of her. Sorry!

  2. Ladii says:

It’s distasteful because it is against the families wishes. 1. To simulate her death is just desperate and disgusting. Why is that an image you want to put out there? Secondly, whom ever sold pics of of her private viewing is not a friend. I would b beyond pissed at who ever sold the pics. That was their memory and their moments that wer violated. If that’s not what they wanted then their wishes should have been respected. I don’t care how much interest the public had with her. She was still a person and there is no reason to post someone’s death photos on the Internet let alone a magazine. I would b pissed at anyone who does it to my family. If they couldn’t make it to the viewing, oh well! If they weren’t invited, oh well! I would sue their ass!

This is utterly disgusting. I hope the national enquirer is sued. I realize now in the music game if u make xxxxxxxx mount of dollars you will be SET UP & KILLED. I am so glad I never pursued a career in that lifestyle.

  4. mike says:

So the National Enqiurer hired a model….then why why do you say this is the real photo? Makes no sense. This site is even worse than the Nat’l Enq!

  5. Summer says:

Listen the photo shows a beautiful woman resting. Just that who ever shared it has no respect for themselves or any other. Let the family grief in peace.. Shame on you

Money is the ROOT to every evil – whoever sold this photo to the National Enquirer is beyond wicked. This was a private viewing for the family, how low can people get even in death

  8. Vitelle Webb says:

It’s messed up that so many are trying to profit from this tragic loss! Even more messed up is how many homeless people we could have housed & fed with the amount of money in jewelry & possessions that where buried in the ground yet this country complains of debt. I’m sure Whitney would have wanted to give back, not try to take it with her!

  9. Joe says:

How do we know it wasn’t a family member who took the casket photos? Whitney’s own mother could have taken those pics for all we know and sold them to the Enquirer to offset some of the cost of the funeral. There seems to be an assumption that the Enquirer somehow snuck a photographer in before or after hours to take the pictures and that may not be so. Regardless of how the photos were obtained, whether they hired a photographer or bought them from a family member, the Enquirer had every right to publish them. They did not need anyone’s approval.

  10. PS says:

Sick and disgusting. Both the Enquirer and the person selling that picture.

Probably a million dollars was paid for the photos. Blood is thicker than water but money changes everything. Ten bodyguards were hired 24 /7 to protect her body and prevent this from happening.

I don’t think that the photo of Whitney in the cassket was not at all distasteful becouse she was beautyful in life and in death she looks so much at peace i have never seen that kind of peace over somebody like that before. now the bath tub one is left to be said ?

  17. Irma Sykes says:

So distasteful! We were all satisfied with being given the opportunity to be a part of the televised funeral service. We wanted nothing more and we sincerely thank you. Anyone who took this picture must have taken it when no one was around. I am sure that during the wake there were probably lots of people mingling and who would take the chance of standing there (within full view of the family, friends, etc) with a camera or a cell phone. Where was everybody? Cissy I am so very sorry that you would have to entertain this kind of foolishness during your bereavement. I pray that this never happens to anyone again and that you get to the very bottom of this. May God continue to bless and keep you!!

  18. Mskyky says:

I must say that I am so disappointed and disgusted with Freddy O, Mediatakeout, Bossip, Sandra Rose and any other blog site that posted this photo. This is far past disrespectful it is just inhumane. You are just as wrong as the person who leaked the pic for posting it. This is so selfish. This is how we do our girl Whitney? I posted those sites inparticular because as Black’s we have got to do better. This is someone’s child and someone’s mother. I’m no Saint but the book of Proverbs goes hard about things of this nature. You reap what you sow.

  19. Mskyky says:

I have to recant and apologize to Bossip they were actually the ONLY Blog that had the DECENCY to blur out the picture. God Bless Bossip! Whitney would be proud.

  20. erin says:

The photo itself is not disgusting – she looks beautiful and rested. The disgusting part of this story is that they ran a bunch of inaccurate details and that it ran in the National Enquirer – the sleaziest of the sleaze. Had this photo run in the New York Times — had her family allowed for her beautiful photo to be taken — this would not be an issue. You have to consider the source.

That being said, there seemed to be little or no uproar when the tragic quake in Haiti brought corpses to the front page of newspapers across the country, or the death of Gaddahfi with his bloodied body on the front of the NYT. This is the most respectful and well-composed death photo that we’ve seen in a while — so we should be asking: Are we de-sensitized from the tragedy on the front page, leaving only our morals for celebrities?
