Come on son! JR Smith, the League’s Sixth Man of the Year, has been hit with a five game suspension for violating the league’s drug policy. Fresh off the new contract and a good season and you can’t pass a drug test? Basketball players are falling hard and fast, if you know what I mean- last name rhymes with totem- so you might want to get it together.
The league didn’t specify which substance he failed for. Although, had it been performance enhancing drugs, the suspension would have been twenty games. According to Yahoo Sports, the violation was probably a third time marijuana violation.
Per league rules, his suspension will begin “with the first game of the 2013-14 season for which he is eligible and physically able to play.”
Smith signed a new contract with the New York Knicks this summer, worth $17.9 million.
He is no stranger to league violations. He was hit wit a $25,000 fine for posting Tahiry of Love and Hip Hop New York’s backside on twitter.
He will serve the suspension at the beginning of the 2013/2014 season.
Get it together JR!
