Sad news… I was watching the views and saw that last week Sylvia Woods, a living legend, passed away at the age of 86. She had battled with Alzheimer Disease for years, but never gave up her fight. ConnectingthaDotz reports she passed away as Major Bloomberg honored the 50th Anniversary of Sylvia’s in Harlem.
Woods bought her own restaurant in 1962 and at the time could only seat 35 people. However, her delicious soul food could not be kept a secret. She expanded her brand to include a product line of seasonings, canned goods, barbecue sauce and hot sauce. Located at 126th St. and Lenox Ave, it is right around the corner from the Apollo Theater.
The family operates a catering business and is now run by four children and grandchildren.
I had the chance to meet her and all her family about 3 years ago she talked to me and my frat bother for almost 2 hours, then made sure we ate everything on the menu, then gave me 4 plates to take back to the hotel room to give to Monica. They treated me like a superstar and the food was so so good. Showing me so much love .. FreddyO.com wants to send my condolences to the family and friends of Mrs.Sylvia Woods. Check out the pic’s below… P.S. I got to take photos with her but can’t find my pic’s so pissed…
