Nicki Minaj believes more African-American artists aren’t speaking out about social issues because they’re afraid of the backlash they might receive.
Check out the details below.

Nicki Minaj opens up in an interview with “Rolling Stone,” about apathy as it relates to African American HIP HOP stars when it comes to social, political, and controversal issues. Nicki points out to the reaction against Kanye West after his infamous declaration that “George Bush doesn’t like black people” during a concert telethon for Hurricane Katrina in 2005. At that time, Nicki says Kanye was the “unofficial spokesman for hip-hop,” adding that he was “torn apart” for his remarks. She believes that harsh reaction is why he and others have been silent on some of today’s most important issues, such as alleged instances of police brutality.

Nicki Minaj’s latest project “The Pinkprint” is still going strong after two weeks in stores. She shared the following in the interview,

“One of my goals was to give people a glimpse into my personal life, because it’s something I’ve kept very private,”

“The Pinkprint” is Nicki Minaj’s third album and is holding on to the number two spot on the Billboard 200 chart after racking up an additional 156-thousand sales. During its debut week, the project brought in 244-thousand sales.

Do you agree with Nicki Minaji? Do you think Hip Hop is being silent out of fear of losing opportunities? Do you think they just don’t care?
