Nicki Minaj and Rihanna‘s trophy shelves are sporting some new hardware. The two were among the artists who were honored by the “people” at the 2013 “People’s Choice Awards.” The event took place Wednesday night at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theater. Minaj was the only female nominee in the Favorite Hip-Hop Artist category, but she beat out all the boys, including Drake, Flo Rida, Jay-Z and Pitbull. Fans voted Rihanna as their Favorite R&B Artist. She won the award over Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Bruno Mars and Usher. Chris Brown and Usher came up short in the running forÂ Favorite Male Artist, that award went to Jason Mraz.
Meanwhile, Maroon 5 picked up the award for Favorite Band, while fans voted One Direction‘s debut record “Up All Night” as their Favorite Album. Their hit “What Makes You Beautiful” also won the award for Favorite Song. In the movie categories, “The Hunger Games” grabbed two awards for both Favorite Movie and Favorite Action Movie. Robert Downey Jr. was voted fans’ Favorite Movie Actor and Jennifer Lawrence won for Favorite Movie Actress. For her philanthropic efforts at Warren Easton High School in New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Sandra Bullock was honored with the Favorite Humanitarian award.
