Nike Officially Resigned Michael Vick & Is Now Being Boycotted About It

After Nike officially resigned Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, who was convicted and served 21 months in federal prison for dogfighting, it’s not surprising to learn that some folks aren’t the least bit happy about it.

That fact became clear when a Facebook campaign was started to boycott Nike and any other companies who endorse Vick. So far a little under 4,000 people had “liked” the page.

According to FootballNewsNow.com, even some celebrities have expressed their disapproval of the Vick/Nike relationship via Twitter. Jenna Dewan, star “The Playboy Club” tweeted:

“Yes, I do believe in forgiveness, but that does not mean I need to support him as an inspirational figure.”

“One Tree Hill” star Sophia Bush said this:

“NIKE just signed Michael Vick!? Done. Over. Lost customer. NEVER wearing Nike again. #AnimalAbuseIsUnforgivable. The propensity to be cruel and ruthless toward a defenseless animal is sick, twisted, & unforgivable. #NOTaRoleModel.”

“Big Bang Theory” star Kaley Cuoco posted on her Twitter page, “Dear Nike, I’m disappointed.”

Also, last week BET gave Vick its “Athlete of the Year” award, sponsored by Subway, so the Facebook campaign is also calling for a boycott those two companies as well. All I have to say is how sad are the people who have time to hate on someone… Good Job Nike & BET for saying “F*ck yall we still got love for Vick”… LOL

How could anyone who has read what Michael Vick did possibly believe that he has even remotely done anything to show remorse or make up for what he did. There is no way anyone can make up for the acts Vick committed. With his own hands and his free will, Vick attached jumper cables to the ears of living trembling dogs and tossed them into a swimming pool, laughing as the dog ssplashed in terror and clawed at the sides of the pool, frantic to get out, and when he tired of that, hooked cables to a car battery and electrocuted them. He didn’t do theses acts just once, but repeatedly for almost a decade. He also held dogs’ heads in a 5 gallon bucket until they drowned or strung them up and watched them suffocate or swung them up overhead by the legs and slammed them repeatedly down onto the concrete until they were just a bloody sack of shattered bones. How anyone can think the short time Vick served in prison makes up for the heinous acts he committed. Anyone who can do what he did to helpless animals can never be trusted not to commit some other atrocity against an animal or human in the future. Shame on Nike for their total lack of compassion for dogs, their owners and other helpless living things across our country!!
And by the way, race has nothing to do with most of the comments made about Vick. My comments would be the same no matter who committed these acts — to even hit that the comments are race related shows how out of touch people are.

SOME people treat animals as possesions, as accessories or even worse, as a disposable “fighter” to gamble with.

Most animals in OUR society are reliant on us (humans) to take care of and support them.
I think people who intentially hurt their animals just for entertainment (that is what dog fighting is to some sick people, entertainment) are sick demented people and deserve no better then the animal they hurt.

I for one can not stand when people give up their animals, throw them out on the street or have them put down because they can “no longer care” for the animal.
When you adopt an animal you take RESPONSIBILITY for it’s life. Same as you would with a human.
(I know humans and animals are not the same for anyone who wants to shout that, that is fine if you believe that, I believe all living things have an equal right to live a good life.)

To me, a person who hurts animals, especially for fun, has no compassion.
And a person with no compassion is not tough, he/she is not “gangster” or “macho”, they are the most pathetic excuse for a human beings that I have ever encountered.

    To Nike and Subway –
I expect more from companies with such influence as yours.
You are not only telling our children that it is OK to hurt and kill DEFENSELESS beings, but also that they should look up to them as role models? Are you serious?
I will not support your buisness ever again and will make sure to let others know how I feel about it.

To MICHAEL – Charlie Sheen? You are comparing a guy who’s spiraled down into drugs and become a junkie in the spotlight for people to laugh at, to a person who fought and KILLED defenseless innocent dogs? While not being under the influence of hard drugs? While not showing remorse? I don’t see who you compare Michael Vick to Charlie Sheen but please do enlighten me as I am always open to new information and experiences.

To CRYSTAL – I do agree with you about the BART officer and also Casey Anthony being set free. (Although I HIGHLY doubt the color “white” had anything to do with it, I don’t know if you noticed but most of Americas population HATE Casey Anthony)
I can tell that you really have strong opinions about these two people and what they have done, the harm, the murdering, the pain and suffering.. NOW, imagine if Nike went out and signed Casey Anthony… OR if Subway went out and gave the BART officer an award..
HOW WOULD THAT MAKE YOU FEEL?

Would you feel the same way about the BART officer if he was a good football player? Would it be ok to for Nike to sign him on then? Or what if Casey Anthony gained 200 pounds and then lost it again.. Would it be ok for Subway to give her an award?

Come on people.. Who gives a F*** if he is a good football player…
He is a sad excuse for a human being, period.

    I almost missed Shirl32’s comment..

    You hit everything dead on..
I couldn’t read all that without tearing up..

Like I said before, anyone who does such things as Shirl32 described in her very well written post, should be treated the same way.

Michael Vick should be tossed in a pool hooked to battery, he should be strung up by a tree and beaten to just a sack of skin..
Because you know what? If he could, he would do it again. NO remorse from that sick person.
If one of the abused dogs he hurt was given the opportunity to dish back the same treatment to him, I bet you they wouldn’t. I mean what person with a sound and healthy mind would? None.

There is so much hate and violence in this world as it is, to make the really bad ones role models just shows exactly what this world is coming to.

One might argue that regardless of your race, if you come from the South your a shit for brains redneck hick. That wouldn’t really be fair though would it, your a nation of dummies. AMERICA F$@K YEAH!!!!!!!!!!

“No man is an Island, intire of it selfe; every man is a peece of the Continent, a part of the maine; if a Clod bee washed away by the Sea, Europe is the lesse, as well as if a Promontorie were, as well as if a Mannor of thy friends or of thine owne were; any mans death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankinde; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee.”
