DSC_2733Over the weekend I had the opportunity to journey to Selma, Alabama to be apart of the 50th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday in Selma Alabma. I was one of 80,000 people who made their way to Selma to commiserate the monumentus occassion. The weekend ended on a high note with the Salute to Selma Concert where some of the biggest names in Hollywood came out to celebrate the occassion.

Selma Alabama was filled with thousands of people to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday that took place on the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Music was an intregal part of the Civil Rights Movement and today music still holds a special place in our conciousness.

Congressman John Lewis opened up the ‘Salute to Selma’ Concert with the following words,

DSC_3341“50 years ago, we walked across this bridge, and we had music in our hearts. Because without music, the civil rights movement would have been a bird without wings. We must continue to sing the song of the movement and continue to move forward.”

The concert was DOPE it included performances by Kirk Franklin, Lady Tramaine Hawkins, Ruben Studdard, Kelly Price, The Blind Boys of Alabama, We are Tooz, Estelle, Bell Biv Devoe. Aloe Blacc, Vanilla Ice, Doug E. Fresh, Aressted Development, BeBe Winans, Angie Stone, Eric Benet, and many more.

There were all kinds of celebrity sightings including Q Parker and Sharlinda Parker, Flava Flav, Chris Tucker, Jamie Foster Brown, and so many more.

I am so thankful for the opportunity to experience this trip. It’s a privilege to celebrate such an occassion. I want to thank my good friends over at Centric TV and a shout out to Mr. Avery for giving me the opportunity to take part.
