We had the pleasure of getting a sneak peek of The Preachers of L.A. a couple of weeks ago. The first episode was not only explosive but has gotten the attention of Bishop T.D. Jakes.

Check out our thoughts on the show ans what Bishop Jakes had to say about it below.

The Preachers of L.A. came to Atlanta before it premiered on Oxygen last week. The series is not a reality show but a docu-series that gives us a sneak peek into the lives of 5 prominent ministers living the hot and holy life in Los Angeles. The series focus on the lives of pro skateboarder Pastor Jay Haizlip, Pastor Wayne Chaney, singer/song-writer Minister Deitrick Haddon, Bishop Clarence McClendon and former gang member Bishop Ron Gibson. We got a chance to witness tidbits of the premiere episode and listen to the ministers discuss their thoughts on spirituality, religion, and being ROCK-STARS in the GOSPEL realm.

I will be honest I was a little nervous about this show but after chatting with the cast I felt instantly at ease. After the episode premiere Bishop T.D. Jakes spoke out about Pulpit Rock-Stars. Bishop Jakes had the following to say,

“Now, I know you been watching that junk on TV. I want to tell you right now, not one dime of what you’re sowing right now will buy my suit. I want you to know my car is paid for. I want you to know I got my house on my own. I want you to know I’m not bling-blinging. I am not shake and bake. I had money when I came to Dallas and I plan to have some when I leave.

You did not buy what I got. I had it when I came here. You know I had it when I came here. The devil is a lie! I have sold enough books and produced enough movies. I don’t need your offering to pay for this little slimy suit. So I rebuke that spirit in the name of Jesus Christ.

The people who have been here a while can go through my track record and prove when I said something, I did it. When we went after something, we bought it. When we wanted the land, we paid for it. When we wanted the school, we built it. When we went after this church we burned the mortgage on this church.

You don’t do that kind of business being shake and bake and slimy…So let the work I’ve done speak for me. You are sowing into good ground; and the 300 families that are employed in this ministry eat from this ministry, work in this ministry, and help us to produce the excellence that we do. The natives all over Kenya drink water because of this ministry. And the hospital in Nairobi survives because of this ministry.

I do not need you to buy my car. I got this.”

Dang Bishop Jakes just went in. Honestly I had a great time getting to know the cast and think what they are doing is going to be of good to the masses. I got a chance to see tidbits of the episode and watched the premiere in its entirety before weighing in with my thoughts and pictures.

It is uncomfortable to think of our favorite ministers as human beings and being less than perfect. I think it’s brave of these ministers to put themselves out on front street to show the world how they live. We actually enjoyed the afternoon and got a chance to get up close and personal with each minister.

We also got a chance to connect with some of the first ladies of GOSPEL recording artist Dottie Peoples and Darlene McCoy who hosted the event.

It was also great seeing the homie Usher’s mama Jonetta Patton.

It was an amazing event and the premiere episode was explosive. Can’t wait to see what the Preachers of L.A. has in store this season.

  1. Sasha Jones says:

This is why so many black people don’t attend church. An entourage, really. These so called pastors need to open up the word and read it.

  2. Shonda Aq says:

The comment from Sasha Jones is true…A lot of people from different races don’t care to attend churches because there are too many offerings. And the pastors always beg for money. People have looked around and noticed that the pastor and his family is living lavish lifestyles because they use the congregations money…This show shows just that…I will continue to pay my tithes but if the pastor wants to use the money for his/her personal use and not for the functioning of the church, than i’ll leave that in God’s hand. We all have a day to stand before our heavenly father…
