The Roots drummer Questlove is throwing his support behind Iggy Azalea and defending her to her legions of haters.
Check out the details below.
In an interview with “Time,” Questlove defends the Australia-born Iggy Azalea against those who accuse her of “culture vulture-ism.” He says the hip-hop world has to “come to grips” with the fact that hip-hop is a “contagious culture.” He also calls Iggy’s hit single “Fancy” a “game-changer” that will force people to accept “the fact that hip-hop has spread its wings.”
However, even he admits he’s “torn between opinions” about Iggy. He adds that hopefully she will grow out of using a Southern accent when rhyming and eventually start using her “regular dialect.”
Questlove also praises the Australian music scene in general, saying artists Down Under are “a lot more soulful” than American artist right now. He also says that at the moment some of his “four or five” favorite singers are Australian.
