Rachel Dolezal managed to snag an interview with Vanity Fair to explain her side! Over a month ago the white lady pretending to be black was outed by her parents and it’s has been downhill for her since.

Dolezal had it ALL…a community that trusted her, she was the president of her N.A.A.C.P chapter in Spokane, and a teaching position. However, she lost it all once the world discovered that she was really a white woman who was lying about her race! She even claimed another (black man) as her father. She claims that this was all very real for her.

It’s not a costume. I don’t know spiritually and metaphysically how this goes, but I do know that from my earliest memories I have awareness and connection with the black experience, and that’s never left me. It’s not something that I can put on and take off anymore. Like I said, I’ve had my years of confusion and wondering who I really [was] and why and how do I live my life and make sense of it all, but I’m not confused about that any longer. I think the world might be—but I’m not.

Since she has lost everything and many of her friends have distance themselves from her, there’s a possibility that she will have to move so she can be able to provide for her son. For now, Dolezal begun styling black hair for a means of income. She also mentions how she wants to publish a book really detailing her life and why she did what she did?

I would like to write a book just so that I can send [it to] everybody there as opposed to having to continue explaining.

After that comes out, then I’ll feel a little bit more free to reveal my life in the racial social-justice movement. I’m looking for the quickest way back to that, but I don’t’t feel like I am probably going to be able to re-enter that work with the type of leadership required to make change if I don’t have something like a published explanation.

Even after it is all said and done, Dolezal still identifies as a black woman and has no intentions of changing that!

Wasn’t really sure what to think about Rachel Dolezal? I never understood why anyone would want to be claim “black”…but to her this isn’t an act. What are your thoughts? Comment below!
