Rolling Out CEO Munson Steed and Dr Tyrone Carter come to the Minnesota black author’s expo October 19th



The Minnesota Black Authors Expo aim to promote the work of Black authors on October 19, 2019 at De LaSalle High School

“The Minnesota Black Authors Expo was founded by two authors, De’Vonna Pittman and Jasmine Boudah. Their vision is to support authors, promote literacy, and stimulate the income of authors of color.  They recognized “other expos didn’t celebrate or cater to Black literature or its readers,” and felt it necessary to create the much-needed space.

This year Rolling Out CEO and publisher Munson Steed will be on board to promote his two new children’s books “Little Professor Skye’s Favorite Things”, and “Atom Smart Rocket Dreams; a space explorer and coloring book.” Steed is a media mogul with a diversified national media company across print, digital, television and social media platforms with the flagship brand,

The first Annual Minnesota Black Author’s Expo was hosted in 2017 with an overwhelming response from authors and community. Forty authors were featured at the expo, and fifty were featured in 2018. This forum gives authors an opportunity to sell their books, promote literacy, display their talents, network, and meet other authors and community members. Authors and community rally from around the state to show support for this much anticipated event. The expo even welcomes out of state authors.

“We have a strong passion to ensure authors of color in Minnesota have the same opportunities to network and sell their work as other authors in the state. We also recognized that many educators were looking for literature written by Black authors.” Pittman said.

The expo is a bustling event where all are welcome—Educators, family, and community members will have a chance to meet, greet, and buy books the day of the expo. There will be a wide selection of genres to choose from, including Non-Fiction, Self Help, Urban Fiction, Christian Fiction, Empowerment, Hip Hop Love Stories, Coming of Age, and Children Books.

Dr. Tyronne Carter, a Black scientist will facilitate two 20-minute experiments in the kids’ corner. Pittman and Boudah have recruited a team of experts to coach emerging authors to the publishing finish line. The writer’s boot camp is a three-hour crash course where hopefuls hear about editing, marketing, how to write publish their work. The expo will feature saxophonist Antonio Jackson.

Dr. Josie R. Johnson will be interviewed by co-founder De’Vonna Pittman. Acclaimed author, Shawn Blanchard, is the 2019 guest panelist and speaker, Blanchard has been featured on CNN, FOX, TedX, ABC, Essence, and Forbes Magazine. The expo boasts a full day of kids activities, face painting, panels and readings, raffles, and donations of over 100 books and 10 iPad raffles.
