Rolling Stone Magazine has named Eminem the King of Hip Hop. They recently published their rankings, analyzing data from 2009 until July of 2011 and compared 16 rappers: Big Boi, B.o.B, Diddy, Drake, Eminem, Fabolous, Lupe Fiasco, Gucci Mane, Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, Lil Wayne, Ludacris, Nicki Minaj, Pitbull, Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg, T.I., Waka Flocka Flame, Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa. They compared rappers by number of records sold (Eminem sold 7.5 million while Lil Wayne sold almost 3 million), number of R&B/Hip Hop chart-topping hits (Drake), Youtube views (Eminem), money gained from tours (Lil Wayne), Social Networking (Eminem), Album Reviews (Kanye West with Big Boi coming in second), and Awards (Jay-Z).
In the end, Eminem takes the cake, the question is why? Why does he have such a broader appeal to Americans than say Lil Wayne or Jay-Z? How would you determine the King of Hip Hop on your block? I’ll let the stanz take a shot at that one. Check out the full article here.
