The Real, Season 2

RuPaul explains the difference between drag and transgender on The Real. I know I don’t know the difference so I thought I would share this article so we all have a clear understanding of these two terms.

Check out the details below.

On Wednesday, March 2, the ladies “condragulate” internationally famous drag queen and recording artist RuPaul on the 100th episode of his hit LOGO series, RuPaul’s Drag Race. He schools the ladies on the “real” difference between drag versus transgender and explains the title of his 10th album, Butch Queen. Plus, a fashion show demonstrating how to rock a cape, and the winner of “Loni’s Laugh Off” comedy contest is revealed!

Jeannie Mai: One of the biggest misconceptions is that drag and transgender are one of the same. Can you explain to us why are they different?

RuPaul: Well drag is really making fun of identity. We are shapeshifters. We’re like, “Today, I’m this. Now, I’m a cowboy. Now, I’m this.” That’s what drag is about. Transgender take identity very very seriously. You know, in that their identity is who they are. But you know, I… I come from the school of you know… I’ll do whatever I want to do at anytime and change and whatever.

Tamar Braxton: How about that?!

[The Real audience claps.]

Jeannie: Ru, would you do us the honors and take us out to break?

RuPaul: That’s right honey. Now y’all don’t sashay away for too long because these ladies still got some woooork to do right here on The Real.

[The Real audience cheers and claps.]
