Singer El DeBarge is off the hook following his arrest this week on drug-related charges. Prosecutors have declined to file a case against the Grammy winner, citing insufficient evidence. DeBarge, who has a history of drug abuse and drug rehab, was arrested Monday afternoon in Encino, California. Undercover officers took DeBarge and a second man in, saying the two were acting suspiciously during an exchange near a freeway. Police reportedly recovered narcotics from an area where DeBarge had been standing. Prosecutors also declined to file charges against the other man, Curtis Freeman, for lack of evidence.
El DeBarge is best known as the lead singer and co-founder of the 1980s family group DeBarge which produced hits such as “Rhythm of the Night” and “Who’s Johnny.” The singer was sentenced to two years in federal prison in 2008 for drug possession but has been trying to clean up his act ever since. DeBarge released the album “Second Chance” in late 2010.
