Alicia Keys Gets Wax Portrait In New York

Alicia Keys is the latest celebrity to get waxed at the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum of New York. Today was a big day for the pop star as it was also the 10th anniversary of her groundbreaking debut album Songs in a Minor. Alicia decided to celebrate this momentous occasion along with the unveiling of her wax statue with her fellow New Yorkers.

The wax figure was dressed in the custom designed black leather jumpsuit and matching motorcycle jacket that Alicia wore in the New York oriented track “Empire State of Mind” which also featured Jay-Z. When Alicia saw the statue for the first time, she was ecstatic and said “I am so excited, it’s so crazy I can’t believe it!” We can believe it though as the singer has made her mark in the music industry for years and has definitely made an impact in her hometown of New York City.

Alicia Keys To Co-Produce Broadway Play

Alicia Keys is taking her talents to Broadway. The R&B superstar has announced plans to co-produce a play titled “Stick Fly.” The production will revolve around an affluent African-American family that comes together for a weekend on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. Alicia says “Stick Fly” has a story that “everybody can relate to,” adding that she was attracted to the project because it “portrays Black America in a way that we don’t often get to see in entertainment.” It has not yet been announced whether or not the Grammy winner will be a part of the cast. “Stick Fly” will open on December 8th, with previews taking place in November.

Alicia Keys is also releasing deluxe and collector’s editions of her debut album, “Songs In A (ay) Minor,” today. The records will feature unreleased songs and remixes of previous hits, while the collector’s set will also include a special documentary. Alicia will also celebrate “Songs In A Minor” on Thursday with a special concert at New York’s Beacon Theatre.

After much speculation, it has been confirmed that the 30 year will indeed be taking to the stage at the BET Awards 2011 in Los Angeles next Sunday (June 26th). Reliable sources reveal that the slot will serve as Rowland’s first televised performance of ‘Motivation’.

The singer is among a string of new performers added to the night’s impressive line up. Along with her, Trey Songz and Mary J Blige join the likes of Chris Brown, Alicia Keys, Jill Scott, and Drake on the list of those taking to the stage.

After Alicia arrived at her Black Ball–which raises millions of dollars of orphans suffering from AIDS in Africa and India–she took to Twitter to express her disappointment with scheduled performer George Michael.

She said:

“#Blackball Uk was a TREMENDOUS Success!!!! but one question…..what kind of person bails on 15million orphans…..#GEORGEMICHEAL???? ;-(.”

But what she likely didn’t realize at the time is that George tweeted three days ago that he was suffering from a jaw infection:
