Today I recieved an email, from an upset student from my alma mater, Clark Atlanta University, about the tragic death of AUC student Jasmine Lynn, and her parents lawsuit against the school.  Here is the letter, please feel free to comment on your thoughts about the letter. Do ya’ll think she was out of line? Pictured above is Jasmine Lynn’s parents.

As a student of Clark Atlanta University I am very aware of the situation with Jasmine Lynn, and I agree that it is a sad and terrible situation. No parent should ever have to have their child sent home in a casket. Although the next statements that I will make, may seem a tad bit harsh and heartless, they are my views, and whether or not others agree with me is none of my concern.

Believe me when I say that I know the pain of losing someone and I know how much it hurts, but I do believe the parents’ law suit against Clark Atlanta University (CAU) is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. The person at fault for Miss Lynn’s death has been taken into custody, CAU is not responsible for her death. It was simply a matter of wrong place wrong time. Public Safety came to the scene and gave all the aid that they could, if anyone should be sued it should be Atlanta Police Department and the ambulance services, for taking forever to get to the crime scene.

Maybe if Miss Lynn was on her campus instead of being out so late, in what we all know is not a great neighborhood, this sad tragedy would not have happened. And as heartless as it sounds it’s the truth. Spelman and Morehouse student always complain and bash CAU for being in the “ghetto”  when they do not take into consideration that their institution is in the same “ghetto” as CAU, they just have gates surrounding their campus. And what I do not understand is, if it’s so bad why do you continue to come over here? CAU’s main campus is gated, the only dorms that are not gated are the upper-classmen dorms.

It is so sad what had to happen to this young woman’s life, and I’m sure it had people more alert about their surroundings, but it saddens me that something this tragic is what it took for people to take new safety precautions, and it’s also sad that it took something this tragic to increase AUC unity.

As I stated before, this shouldn’t have to happen to anyone, but I think the parents are just looking for someone to blame with this lawsuit. And I do not believe this lawsuit has any validity. I just pray that the family can eventually one day become at peace, and they are in my prayers every night, because this is such a disheartening situation.

Melanie Fiona recently had her album listening party, and she held it in the infamous AUC, at Spelman College. It was a real relaxed and intimate setting. Not only did they get to hear her album, they also got to hear her amazing voice because she sang two of her songs, “It Kills Me” and “Aye Yo”… Shot Out to Darla for the pic’s…
