Around the holidays there are always quite a few charitable drives to support those in need. For music executive Charles McCree, giving back is a year round task, with December only culminating all of his efforts. December 13, 2014 marked the 7th year anniversary for his charity shoe drive Charles McCree Presents: Project Walk A Mile In My Shoes. Since 2008 over 8,000 pairs of shoes have been collected for women, men, and children in need. This year the shoe drive went global when over 150 pairs of shoes were sent to Sierra Leone, West Africa. This was done through the organization “Bridging The Gap Africa”. Shoes also went to The Covenant House, a shelter for homeless teens, Dress For Success, My Sister’s House, The Atlanta Mission, and every teen at the Positive Growth Boys Home was able to receive a pair of sneakers for their Christmas program.

Five Things You Didn’t Know About Christmas

5. George W Bush sent the most Christmas cards from the White House in 2002, sending 1.5 Million cards out.

4. The tradition of sending Christmas Cards began with a lazy Englishman.

In 1843, wealthy English businessman Sir Henry Cole had forgotten or not left enough time to write Christmas letters to his friends and colleagues wishing them well. So he instead commissioned an artist to draw a scene of friends raising a glass in toast with a message of well wishes below. He printed cards en masse and sent them instead.

So its the holiday season and every celebrity in Atlanta is doing charity events. Most of the Atlanta celebs donate small checks or  tell other people to write checks but never go to there foundation events which is why I don’t go to most of them. I did decide to go to the Coats for Christmas which was am event thrown by my homie Ludacris and former NFL player Jonas Jennings.

The event was at the College Park Housing Authority and there were kids lined up around the block when I got there. Luda and Jonas said they wanted to do the event in College Park because that’s where they live. Jonas grew up in College Park and gives a bunch of money to the schools and all kinds of stuff in the community and Luda does alot every year with his Ludacris Foundation that his mother Ms. Roberta runs.

I have to give props to Luda and Jonas because they both actually came out and hung out with the kids. They gave away a bunch of coats and stuff but they also took pictures and played with the kids.

Luda even brought his little girl out to help with everything. Props to both of them for being more than just a check for Christmas.

Thanks to Enchanted PR and AW Media Group for the invite… READ MORE
