It looks like the self-proclaimed “best rapper alive” is taking a break from rap. Lil Wayne said in a recent phone interview with DJ Drama on Atlanta’s Hot 107.9 that his music is taking a “back seat to skating.” Wayne explains that the sport has gone from a hobby to a lifestyle for him, and if he wants to be fully committed to skating, he says needs to “live that lifestyle.” The emcee goes on to say he feels it’s time for a break from the rap game. And he says his fans deserve a “lil’ no Wayne” time as well. He notes that he’s “still on everybody’s song” and his Young Money artists “are doing awesome,” but the fans “deserve some peace” from him. That “peace” won’t come this month. READ MORE

 

2 Chainz aka Tity Boi is no new-comer to the game. As one half of the group Playaz Circle, known for their street anthem ‘Duffle Bag Boyz’, 2 Chainz has been grinding for some time, but he has recently come into his own and has released his highly anticipated mixtape, T.R.U. REALigion, hosted by ‘Mr. Thanksgiving’ himself, DJ Drama. The mixtape has 19 songs and boast features from some of the hottest in the game. From Birdman, Yo Gotti, Big Sean, Kreayshawn, to the King of the South, T.I., 2 Chainz definitely delivers on his latest release. NYC-based marketing/PR firm the 135th Street Agency kicked off BET Hip Hop Awards Week with its 5th Annual BBQ – now in Atlanta for the first time (instead of Harlem). On a beautiful starry night, nearly 400 VIPs packed Piedmont Park’s Magnolia Hall, including event co-hosts Fonzworth Bentley and Kelly G (BET’s Sr. Music Supervisor), along with featured DJs Drama, Trauma and Traci Steele.

Guests sipped complimentary Remy V cocktails and FUZE drinks while chowing on hot dogs, hamburgers, Italian sausages, bbq chicken, potato salad, baked beans, corn, Popeye’s fried chicken and an assortment of cupcakes from Cocktail Cupcakes and Tasty Cakes ATL.

While attendees danced and dined, notables such as THe Lovly Dondria, Ray J, Da Brat, French Montana, Devyne Stephens, Lil Duval, Verse Simmonds, Jovita Moore (WSB TV anchor), Kwanza Hall (Atlanta City Council), Faune Watkins, D.Woods, Shanti Das, Derek J and comedian Shawty mixed and mingled.


Universal Pictures was on hand to promote their upcoming action-comedy Tower Heist, starring Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller. Guests enjoyed a little Tower Heist experience in the ever-popular OMG Booth, and went home with gift bags filled with swag from Dr. Miracles, Carol’s Daughter, Rocksmith, Mixed Chicks, The Source and JUICY Magazine. T.I & Pharrell Back In The Studio

While T.I finishes his remaining sentence at the halfway house he is busy making music again with Neptunes producer Pharrell. T.I. isn’t confining his writing skills to music. In a recent interview with “Montreality,” DJ Drama revealed that Tip is working on a book. DJ Drama didn’t reveal any details about the publication, but did say that T.I. fans can look forward to “some good records.” Just last week, T.I. posted another letter to his fans on his website TrapMuzik.com. The rap superstar thanked everyone for their support, and said once he’s released, he plans on approaching music as if he’s “never sold a record.” READ MORE
