Beyonce and Jay-Z are being recognized as two of the most powerful people in music. The R&B and hip-hop super couple rank 13th on the first-ever Billboard Power 100 list.

The Power 100 ranks the most influential people in music today. Beyonce and Jay were able to crack the top 15 thanks to their incredible sales figures and partnerships with companies such as L’Oreal, Target, Def Jam Records and Live Nation. The chairman of Live Nation, Irving Azoff, tops the inaugural Billboard Power 100.

Other musicians making the list include Cash Money Records CEO Bryan “Birdman” Williams and his brother Ronald “Slim” Williams, who come in at number 25. Jon Bon Jovi checks in at number 50, while Taylor Swift sits at number 78. Lady Gaga also made the cut at number 84. Here’s Billboard 2012 Power 100

In other news Beyoncé is being “politicized” in New Jersey thanks to a doctoral student and lecturer at Rutgers University. Kevin Allred has started a course called “Politicizing Beyoncé” as part of the school’s Department of Women’s and Gender Studies, but he tells “Focus” it has little to do with the singer’s political engagement or how many times she’s performed for President Obama. Oprah’s best friend Gayle King has done something no one thought she would ever do. On her OWN talk, she invited Curtis James Jackson – a/k/a 50 Cent – to talk about bullying, but before the talk could commence, she took a moment to share with the audience her new piece of body-art.

On her left bicep, King has a temporary tattoo of the face of rapper and now actor 50 Cent along with his name. He appears in a do-rag and fitted cap. Perhaps it’s a kind gesture since Fif has a cat named Gayle and a dog named Oprah.

At one point, King joked about the possibility of a relationship together and how the tabloids would react to such a story. READ MORE

Aretha Franklin Celebrates her 69th Birthday

After battling back from health problems, the Queen of Soul celebrated her 69th birthday in a big way in New York City on Friday among friends and supporters.

Among those in attendance at the party, held at the Central Park Hotel, were Tony Bennett, Smokey Robinson, Clive Davis, actress and singer Bette Midler as well as OWN’s Gayle King, according to the Associated Press. Her publicist, Tracey Jordan, said Franklin planned to go to the theater earlier in the evening to catch “Driving Miss Daisy” on Broadway.

The music legend underwent surgery late last year in her native Detroit for an undisclosed ailment. Since then, she’s lost more than 80 pounds. Franklin has said the weight loss was because of a change in diet and exercise.

“It’s a fabulous moment,” said Ms. Franklin, touting a slimmer frame.

Aretha is due to return to the stage in May, and also has a new album on the way.
