What Do You Think About The BET Hip Hop Awards 2009?

If I could describe the 2009 Bet Hip Hop Awards in one word I would say Gucci. Rapper, Gucci Mane made several appearances on tonight’s Hip Hop Awards. I must say tonight was his time to shine. Even Soulja Boy’s performance was centered around Gucci; both the fashion label and the rapper. I would have to say that BET was very successful at putting the spotlight on Atlanta’

s hip hop and rap artists. With Gucci Mane, Soulja Boy and The Dream making at least 2 appearances on stage for performances, it was clear where the award show was hosted.

It was very entertaining to see Snoop Dogg back on stage in his Parental Advisory jeans. And who knew Kid and Play would make an appearance doing their famous dance on stage together to present an award. Goodie Mob gave us all a taste of what Hip Hop in Atlanta really is from their lyrical flow on to their classic singles and their unique fashion sense. Who can forget Jay-Z and Jeezy’s performance? They make a great collaboration.

Mike Epps did an extraordinary job as the host. Unlike some other comedians who host an award show, he was able to entertain, keep the audiences interest and bring live to the show in between award presentations and performances. Nice choice of host this year BET!

Ice Cube was the perfect honoree of the 2009 Bet Hip Hop Awards’ I Am Hip Hop Award. Ice Cube’

s influence on Hip Hop music as a rapper, accomplishments in the community, success as a actor and in his own film business make for all the reasons why he deserved this award.

Missy Elliot and Fatima Robinson, who both coincidentally worked close Aaliyah, also deserved their honors for their influence in the Hip Hop culture. These women especially made an impact by being a couple of the very few success stories for women in this genre of music. Missy is the only woman in Hip Hop to have 6 platinum albums. Her creativity is displayed in her different sense of music and the expression of her songs in her distinct videos. Fatima is one of the best choreographers Hip Hop has known. She creatively put together the most entertaining and trendsetting dances seen in the videos and concerts in artists such as Brandy, Busta Rhymes, Aaliyah, Michael Jackson, Mary J. Blige, R. Kelly, Prince, OutKast and more.g others.

The BET Hip Hop Awards always seems to surprise it’

s audience with something completely different and new each year. Keep a close watch, you may never know what to expect in the upcoming years.

According to Necolebitchie.com, Gucci Mane and Usher recently teamed up to shoot a video for their single “Spotlight.” The leading lady in this video, to my surprise and many others, was Eddie Murphy’s daughter Bria. I knew she was modeling, I just didn’t expect her to do videos. But from the looks of the pictures it seems like this is going to be a good luck for Gucci!

Gucci Mane’s Upcoming North Carolina A&T Concert Drawing Criticism

Not everyone is looking forward to Atlanta Emcee Gucci Mane’s upcoming concert at North Carolina A&T. The “News & Record” reports that some of the school’s faculty and students are criticizing the university for allowing the rapper to perform on campus. Some are reportedly upset with Gucci Mane’s alleged gang ties, and the impact his performance may have on the school’s image. Just being real that is some bull, Gucci might have cut a fool in his past, but in the end he’s coming out to show the school some love, and he sells tickets…

Gucci Mane is slated to take the stage October 31st with fellow hip-hop acts Fabolous, Trey Songz, Keri Hilson and OJ Da Juiceman. The school’s counselor, Harold Martin, says, quote, “We are reviewing our options right now. We are trying to determine if this artist can be replaced under the existing contract, how that would be done, what the fiscal result would be.”

Other school officials, however, say the show will move forward as planned because there are contracts in place and six-thousand tickets have already been sold. Gucci Mane was arrested for Murder in 2005, just one day before his debut album, “Trap House,” arrived. The charges were dropped in 2006 due to a lack of evidence.

Albany Speaks Out Against Gucci Mane Concert

Why yall hating on Gucci… Not everyone in Albany, Georgia is looking forward to Gucci Mane’s upcoming concert. The rapper is slated to take the stage at the Albany Civic Center on August 29th, the city commissioner Bob Langstaff isn’t pleased. In an email to Albany’s City Manager and the Civic Center’s director, Langstaff writes, quote, “I’m appalled…what do you need from me to keep this ‘entertainer’ from performing at Albany’s Civic Center? This is not appropriate for our civic center.” Langstaff says if the issue over Gucci Mane’s performance isn’t handled “in-house” then he would like to hold a special meeting to adopt policy guidelines for future shows.
The concert’s promoter, Gilbert Udoto, replied to WALB News saying, quote, “we have an act that can sell tickets and now this is what we get.” Udoto adds that Gucci Mane is just exercising his right to free speech, proclaiming, quote, “It’s no different from other artists.” Gucci Mane is currently working on the follow-up record to his 2007 release, “Back to the Trap House.”

Birthday Bash Rundown & All The Dirt

Birthday Bash 14, which was put on by Hot 107.9 at Atlanta’s Phillips Arena on June 20th , was another huge success. Major artists gave HOT performances like Young Dro, Keri Hilson, Rick Ross, Soulja Boy, Gucci Mane, Young Jeezy, Plies, Bow Wow, and Trey Songz just to name a few. Definitely have to re-shout out to Gucci Mane, who I felt had the best performance hands down and Young Jeezy who brought out Mary J Blige and Lil’ Wayne.

In case you didn’t know :

Mary J. Blige didn’t perform because some IDIOT left her track CD. That person needs to immediately do us all a favor that were in attendance and kill themselves.

Fabolous getting booted off the stage was his own fault. Fabolous was given 10 mins to perform and missed his call time, so the show had to change it and gave him 5 mins after being onstage over his time they had cut the mic. When he decided to take matters into his own hands and ignore his time, they booted his butt off the stage. Not only did he throw his mic down on the stage behind him, he also went on his Twitter account referring to Birthday Bash as “Thursday Trash”. All I’m going to say on that one is come out with some NEW songs then you might get the time on stage you think you deserve. I am told that he is not allowed at the radio station anymore and his music might not be getting any plays or support. That was really dumb of him.

Well I’m not going to name any names, but many of your fave celebs were acting extremely Hollywood. Just so I’m not leaving you completely in the dark I will say it was one of the female performers that had maybe 15 claps in an audience of 20,000. 3 Men Stabbed At Club Last Night

Yesterday, at one of Atlanta’s hottest clubs, 3 men were stabbed. I really can’t go into the details about the events that happened, but I will say that it was a nasty and horrific scene that had one dude’s face slashed halfway open and blood everywhere. The altercation involved 2 different Rap/DJs organizations. What started as a big fight ended up getting extremely dirty. According to Channel 2 News “alot of celebrities were being rushed out of the building” and I am here to say that is completely false. The only people that were aware of the occurrences were the people that were upstairs that heard the gun shots. And NO, Young Jeezy was not stabbed during the altercation. He was just fine during it all and left to check on friends who were injured. I just hate that this unfortunate incident happened. People came out last night to have a good time and had to have their evenings ruined by some hood mess that was not necessary!!! Next time I’m going to need them to take all their ignorance to the house, studio or wherever and let people party in peace. I know ATL is going to be crazy this weekend and my advice to you is go where you need to go and not hang around these places when the concert/events are over. Take Yo A$$ Home….. FORREAL!

What’s really crazy is that people were alleging that Gucci Mane was involved when he wasn’t even in Atlanta. Gucci Mane, Mario, and Sean Garrett were away on location shooting their new video and had absolutely nothing to do with what happened.

I hope everyone that was injured is safe and the “beef” can get squashed!
